Denouncing Scare Tactics

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology (TJ) Alumni Action Group (TJAAG) supports the recent admissions policy changes including the removal of a prohibitively high application fee and a standardized test that did not reflect merit at our alma mater. These reforms make a TJ education possible for more young people than ever before, especially from low-income families, and create a student body that better represents the community TJ serves. Several conservative activist groups claim the new admissions policy is discriminatory against Asians. They are wrong. Unfortunately, several individuals have started harassing and intimidating those in the community - including TJ students, parents, and alumni - who support the equitable reforms. This is also wrong.

TJAAG strongly condemns any attempt to silence voices of legitimate public debate. We stand by our volunteers, allies, and all those within our community who are working toward a more equitable and inclusive education for all children in Northern Virginia.
