TJAAG Commends Appeals Court's Stay in TJ Admissions Case

The TJ Alumni Action Group (TJAAG) is pleased with the ruling from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which will let the Fairfax County School Board continue using the equitable admissions process for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ). These changes resulted in a historic increase in access for students who are low-income or English Language Learners, including those of Asian descent. We advocate access for all students, regardless of their racial or socioeconomic background. We hope common sense prevails in the appeal and that TJ admissions continue to become more equitable for future generations.

Background

TJAAG is a committed group of volunteers from diverse backgrounds: Black, Latinx, Asian, White, Indigenous, mixed-race, women, men, parents and non-parents, married and single, immigrants and non-immigrants, English language learners and native speakers, and lived experience across the socioeconomic spectrum. We seek to enhance accessibility, inclusion, and innovation within STEM education in order to develop well-rounded and ethical 21st-century leaders. Since 2016, we have encouraged alumni engagement in TJ equity and inclusiveness.
